Students at Ponderosa High School are actively involved with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and have worked several hundred hours working on the rehabilitation of houses in the local community.
Youth United is a nationwide program which builds on the foundational aspect of Habitat’s mission – improving access to quality housing in our local community – and integrates essential leadership curriculum. Students have accomplished tasks such as painting home exteriors, excavating foundations and water lines, cleaning new homes for occupation and hosting World Habitat Day in October to bring awareness concerning the need for housing to the community. In the fall of 2011, students even created a powerful video on the need for housing which built on critical 21st century skills and was later posted on YouTube. PHS Youth United Video Fall 2011
Every semester, students participate in volunteer activities for Habitat for Humanity Northern Arizona, including working in the ReStore and raising community awareness. We look forward to many productive partnerships in the future. Click on this link to learn more about Youth United and their national programs.
