Vacancy:  Ponderosa High School Principal


The Coconino County Accommodation School District is seeking applications for the position of High School Principal for Ponderosa High School located in Flagstaff, Arizona.  Ponderosa High School possesses COGNIA Accreditation and has a letter-grade designation of “A” from the Arizona Department of Education.  The Coconino County Accommodation School District is a small rural school district located in northern Arizona.  The district has approximately 120 students and twenty-five employees serving two high schools  –  Ponderosa High School in Flagstaff and Tse’ Yaato’ High school in Page.  The district also operates an on-line high school.



Must possess an Arizona Administrative Certificate and be licensed to serve as a high school principal in the State of Arizona.  Must meet all other requirements as established by the Arizona Department of Education.


Must possess a Master’s Degree or higher and qualify for the High School Principal Certification in the State of Arizona.


A minimum of five years administrative experience at the high school level is strongly desired.


A clear understanding of and support for Exceptional Student Services is paramount!


Position Summary:

The Ponderosa principal will serve as the instructional and operational leader of Ponderosa High School.  The principal will provide a clear vision for successful learning for all students; the principal will ensure a safe, secure and orderly learning environment for students and staff; the principal will cultivate strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, staff and the broader community.  The principal will promote high-quality instructional practices, and will passionately enjoy working with students, and will sincerely believe that all students can achieve.  The principal will collect, analyze and use multiple sources of data to guide continuous improvement in student achievement, to manage school operations, and to effectively evaluate and develop school staff.


Essential Functions:

  • Conduct “In-take Meetings” with all prospective enrollees and their parents/guardians
  • Be visible and consistently present in the school throughout the school day
  • Provide teachers with timely and meaningful feedback relative to classroom instruction
  • Clearly communicate learning goals that reflect high expectations for learning and growth

Position Vacancy:  The position opens on January 6, 2023 and is open through February 3, 2023.


Compensation:  The salary for the position is as per the Administrative Salary Schedule which is posted on the school district’s website.  Placement on the salary schedule is dependent upon the applicant’s prior experience.


The district anticipates filling the position by March 1, 2023, or sooner.  The start date for the position is July 1, 2023.
